plane journey with 5months kid?

am due in Nov and planning to go to my home country in apr 2009.can i travel with 5month baby boy.the journey will be 24-28 hours..a full day.is that safe?
am in Arizona,US how soon can i get the birthcertificate,home country passport,SSN for my child and can fly in apr?

yes..my husband will be with me thru the journey and ofcourse with a stop or two in between.
