We’ve gotten some great bargains traveling to say ski resort cabins in the summer. They are dirt cheap to rent in the summer and have great fishing etc. Anyone have any other off-season lodging bargains they love?

I am studying abroad for a semester in Madrid, Spain and I was wondering if I should just get a eurorail pass to travel on the weekends, or what other good modes of transportation there are? I heard there are cheap flights. What is the best way to travel around Europe?
